زارت مارجريت سكوبي سفيرة الولايات المتحدة بالقاهرة قافلة "عملية الإبتسامة" بالقاهرة اليوم فى مستشفى المقاولين العرب.

"عملية الإبتسامة" هي جمعية أهلية مقرها الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية تقوم بقوافل خيرية لإجراء عمليات جراحية لإصلاح تشوهات الشفة وغيرها من مناطق الوجه عند الأطفال حول العالم. وخلال العامين الماضيين نظمت المنظمة قوافل إلي مصر بالتعاون مع أطباء وممرضين أمريكيين ودوليين فى ثلاث مناسبات. ففي شهر مايو 2007 زارت جمعية "عملية الإبتسامة" محافظة أسيوط ، وفي أكتوبر 2007 زارت قنا. هذا العام تقوم الجمعية بقافلة فى القاهرة من 23 إلى 30 أكتوبر الحالي بمستشفى المقاولين العرب بمدينة نصر. وتضم قافلة جمعية "عملية الإبتسامة" 60 متطوعا ، نصفهم من الولايات المتحدة، وسيقومون بإجراء بعمليات جراحية لأكثر من 90 طفلا.

يتكون الفريق الطبي الدولي لجمعية "عملية الإبتسامة" من عدد من الأطباء والمهنيين المعتمدين من دول مختلفة حول العالم يتطوعون للسفر لمدة أسبوعين للدول الشريكة للجمعية لمعالجة أطفال فى هذه الدول. كما تتضمن قوافل الجمعية توفير فرص تعليمية لمسئولي الرعاية الصحيحة داخل الدول سواء عقد مؤتمرات طبية رسمية أو ورش عمل غير رسمية حول تقنية أو مهارة بعينها وذلك لإيفاء احتياجات المستشفى والعاملين بها فى هذه الدولة الشريكة.

قالت السفيرة مارجريت سكوبي: " لقد انبهرت وسعدت وتشرفت كثيرا بحضورى هنا ورؤية العمل الجاد الذي يبذله الأمريكيين والمصريين مع بعضهما البعض والذي من الواضح أنه يحدث أثرا فوريا فى حياة الأطفال الصغار. أعتقد ان الإسم "عملية الإبتسامة" يبين بوضوح التركيز على الأطفال المولودين بعاهات. فما أراه هنا هو ليس فقط إستعادة الإبتسامة لوجوه هؤلاء الأطفال ولكن أيضا رسم الإبتسامة على وجوه المتطوعين الأمريكيين لأنهم سعداء بوجودهم هنا، والإبتسامة على وجوه الشركاء المصريين لأنهم من الواضح أنهم مشغولون بتسهيل تلك العملية، كما أرى الإبتسامة على وجوه الآباء المشاركين فى العملية. فهذا كله مشروع مبهر للغاية. وأنا أعلم أن هذا المشروع أيضا يدين بالشكر للسيدة سوزان مبارك لدعمها هذا النشاط.

بالنسبة "لعملية الإبتسامة" فهذه هي القافلة الثالثة لها فى مصر ونأمل أن يستفيد 92 طفلا أو أكثر من هذه الشراكة. فكل الأطباء والممرضين والفنيين القادمين من الولايات المتحدة متطوعين، وقالوا لي أنهم هم مستفيدون من هذه التجربة كما يفيدون الآخرين. إذن أنا أعتقد أنها حقا عملية ممتازة. وأنا كسفيرة للولايات المتحدة أشعر بالفخر أن أرى هذه القافلة الأمريكية الكبيرة – ولو أنها تتضمن تعاون دولي أيضا- وهي فى مصر تحاول المشاركة بخبراتها ووقتها مع هؤلاء الأطفال المستفيدين من وجود الفريق هنا. فهو فريق ممتاز. وكانت مستشفى المقاولين العرب سخية للغاية فى تقديم التسهيلات لتحويل هذا النشاط الى واقع. فهذا جهد مشترك بين أطباء وممرضين مصريين وبين فريقنا من الولايات المتحدة، فهو حقا حدثا مبهرا. وأنا أعلم أن الفريق بالفعل يأملون فى العودة هنا فى المستقبل."

Cairo, October 29

Ambassador Scobey today visited the Cairo mission of Operation Smile at the Arab Contractors Hospital. Operation Smile is a U.S.- based NGO which performs goodwill mission to surgically repair cleft lips and other facial deformations on children throughout the world. Over the past two years Operation Smile has organized missions with U.S. and international doctors and nurses to Egypt on three occasions. In May 2007, Operation Smile visited Assiut and in October 2007 the NGO traveled to Qena. This year, Operation Smile Egypt is holding its mission in Cairo from October 23 to 30 in the Arab Contractors Medical Center in Nasr City. The team of 60 medical and medical support volunteers, almost half from the United States, will conduct surgical operations for 92 children.

Operation Smile’s International Medical Mission is comprised of a team of credentialed medical professionals from around the world who volunteer to travel to Operation Smile partner countries to treat children during a two-week period. Operation Smile also uses International Medical Missions to provide educational opportunities to in-country healthcare professionals, ranging from a formal medical conference to an informal workshop on a specific skill or technique, designed to meet the needs of the facility and the healthcare workers from the partner country.

Ambassador Scobey:

“I have been totally amazed and thrilled and honored to be able to come and observe the wonderful work that Americans and Egyptians are doing together that is clearly making such an immediate difference in the lives of these little children. I think that the name of this, Operation Smile, was clearly meant to focus on children who are born with defects. What I see is not just the restored smiles on the faces of these children, but the smiles on the American volunteers because they are thrilled to be here, the smiles on the Egyptian partners to this because they are clearly so engaged in facilitating this and the smiles on the parents as they are involved. So this is just all together an incredibly wonderful project. I understand that this project also owes a lot to the support of Mrs. Mubarak who has been a supporter of these activities.

Operation Smile, this is its third mission to Egypt and hopefully nearly 90 children, or more possibly, will be able to benefit from this partnership. The doctors and the nurses and the technical people here from the United States are all volunteers and they said to me that they are getting as much out of this as they are able to give. So I think that this is truly a remarkable operation. I’m so proud as the Ambassador of the United States to see a heavily American mission, although it has a lot of international cooperation as well here in Egypt to try to share their expertise and their time with these children who are all benefiting from their ability to be here. But it’s really a terrific team and the Arab Contractors Hospital has been extremely generous in providing facilities in order to make this all possible. And working with the Egyptian physicians and the Egyptian nurses and our teams from the United States it’s just a really exciting event. And I know they’ve already said that they hope that they can come back in the future.”
